Module 1 – Teaching Bell Handling

This course is aimed at those starting to teach handling for the first time.

ITTS is particularly keen to attract young ringers over the age of 16. It is necessary for the New Teachers who are students on the Module 1 course to have sufficiently good bell control to be able to inspire confidence in new learners, their mentors, the tower captain (if appropriate) and other members of the learner’s band.

The guideline is that a ringer is likely to have reached this level of bell-control if they are able, at a minimum, to ring Plain Bob Minor competently. There may, however, be potential students who do have the necessary standard of bell control, but perhaps due to lack of experience or opportunity have not advanced so far in their change ringing. If this is the case, it is important that the organisation sponsoring the course, and the individual’s mentor, have satisfied themselves as to the students’ suitability for the course. We are always very happy to discuss individual cases.
